Hi! I jumped on to the band wagon of kojic acid craze. I tried Kojie San skin lightening soap on the recommendation of my dermatologist and I am never going back. It is not a news any more that I am dealing with some skin pigmentation, that has a mood of it’s own. Sometimes, it fades to some extent and then it is back with full force, which I don’t like.
Finally, my hubby made an appointment with a dermatologist in a big hospital close by. I was excited as usual to get some laser treatment etc. All dreams. The doctor there was like an uninterested dermatologist, with less interest in expensive treatments. He did not have the laser treatment facility too. He gave me an Arbutin cream and recommended I use Kojic Acid Soap. I knew that Kojic Acid soap makes skin dry and sensitive. So he recommended I slowly increase the time of application. Now, Kojic Acid Soap intrigued me. On our way back we were at the drugstore and I picked up a few cleansers that included Kojic Acid as an ingredient along with the Kojie San skin lightening soap bar. Anything and everything that is available in the market to get rid of the pigmentation. I was on a mission. š

What is Kojic Acid?
Kojic Acid is an active ingredient naturally derived from the fermentation of a few Asian food like sake or Japanese rice wine and soya sauce. It is also a derived from the fermentation of mushrooms and is a byproduct of various fungi. It is a powerful and proven skin brightening ingredient. Kojic acid also has some antioxidant properties, which helps our skin cells to repair itself from the harmful effects of sun and pollution. It is commonly prescribed by dermatologists for it’s efficiency to treat skin pigmentation, scars, age spots and skin conditions like melasma. It is most often used as a skin lightening agent.
Benefits of Kojic Acid
The major benefits of regularly using Kojic Acid is that it helps to even out skin tone and reduce hyperpigmentation. As an antioxidant, kojic acid helps with healing and reversing the harmful effects of UV rays and pollution. It brightens (whitens) the skin effectively.
It also contains some anti-microbial properties that helps to fight some common types of bacteria, as a result it also helps to deal with some acne causing bacteria.
The anti-fungal properties helps to treat and prevent fungal infections like ringworm, athlete’s foot etc. If a soap containing kojic acid is used regularly, it may help prevent both bacterial and fungal infections on the body.
Kojic acid can also reduce the appearance of scars. Although it may not improve the thickness of scar tissues, it can reduce the dark pigmentation of the scars. Lightening the pigmentation on the scar will make it less noticeable.

Kojie San Skin Lightening Body Lotion & Face Cream
After using the soap for almost two weeks, I decided to add Kojie San skin lightening body lotion and the face cream to my daily routine, because I wanted to accelerate the skin brightening process. Both the Koji San skin lightening body lotion and the Kojie San skin lightening face cream are formulated with zero pigment light technology and is also a HydroMoist formula. Which means it targets skin discoloration effectively and is also hydrating on the skin.
Both the body lotion and the face cream come in a light, non-greasy formula, that easily absorbs into the skin. It keeps my skin soft, smooth and well hydrated all day.
My Experience
I have been using the kojic acid soap for the past 4-5 months. My dermatologist suggested that I use the soap on my face, leave it on for 15-20 seconds and slowly increase the time to 30-45 seconds. Now I leave it on for a minute and then wash my face with cool water. However, while in the shower I rub the soap on my body and leave it on for a couple minutes before I wash it off. But, on my face I try not to exceed the time. Because when we keep it on for extra time, it starts to sting, and I don’t want to be harsh on my skin.
I use the soap twice sometimes thrice a day, to wash my face. However, it took me sometime to see the actual results. In about 2-3 weeks of regular use my skin started looking brighter. It is then that I added the body lotion as well as the face cream after shower. And it helped significantly. My main goal is to get rid of the hyperpigmentation on my cheeks. It’s a small one but very bothersome to me. Now, I truly see that the pigmentation has lightened, but it is not gone yet. I aim to get rid of it and later update this post. But overall my skin has become brighter and more radiant.
Side Effects Of Using Kojic Acid Soap
A few years back I had tried some random brand kojic acid soap, that I received free with some purchase, and it was SUPER drying and it also left a white film on my skin. I did not like that. After that I never tried any kojic acid soap. But after using several Kojie San kojic acid soap, I regret not trying this brand earlier. I did not experience any drastic side effects. However, there is some dryness after using it. So I always make sure to use a good moisturizer or body lotion after shower. It is mandatory to use sunscreen because our skin becomes sensitive to the sun. And long term use of kojic acid may make your skin more susceptible to sunburn. Wear a good sunscreen everyday. I also avoid going out unless urgent.
If you have dry sensitive skin please use it with caution, and use a good moisturizer after. My skin did not feel much drying. However, I did face one problem though, the area around my eyes felt more dry in comparison to the other areas of my face. So I always apply my favorite eye cream multiple times a day and before going to bed.

The day I posted about Kojie San body lotion, on my socials, I received a few DMs asking me some questions about my experience with kojic acid. For example…
Does kojic Acid Soap Remove Tan?
Yes! Kojic Acid soap can removed tan, as it goes deeper into the skin because it hinders the production of melanin, that is responsible to give color to our hair and skin. It definitely helps to remove tan in my experience.
Does Kojic Acid Soap Lighten The Skin Permanently?
Yes and no! If you have damaged skin like some scars, or acne marks or skin damage due to cuts. Even sun tan is considered skin damage. Using kojic acid on these hyperpigmentation will help in lightening those marks. (Because eventually with time the pigmentation lightens on its own) However, using Kojic acid skincare will help to fasten the process. This skin lightening may be permanent.
However, the melanin production in our skin is influenced by certain factors like sun, hormonal changes, inflammation, irritation, use of certain medication, friction etc. So using kojic acid skincare will help lighten your skin but it may not be permanent. Even some skincare treatments require maintenance. Because skincare is a continuous process and when you stop using kojic acid your skin may gradually go back to its normal color. The best thing to do is adopt a proper skincare routine by using the right products that suit best for you and stick to it.
Does Kojic Acid Bleach The Skin?
Kojic Acid does not bleach the skin. It works at a deeper level of the skin by inhibiting the production of melanin, that gives color to the skin.
Overall, I am currently loving this routine of using the Kojie San products because this combination is working effectively for me. I love the pleasant scent of the face cream and the body lotions. They all feel luxurious at such an affordable price. I highly recommend you try, if this brand is easily available to you. However, I have seen posts about fake soaps packaged similarly to the Kojie San brand. I would recommend you buy it from a reputed pharmacy or supermarkets. It is also available on Lazada Ph
I also want to mention that if you experience any redness, rashes, irritation, or pain when using kojic acid, stop using it immediately. Have you tried the Kojic San skin lightening soap? What are your thoughts?
Until next time stay safe and beautiful! š
This product looks interesting!
