New Olay Regenerist Retinol 24 Night Serum Review

Hi! I tried the new Olay Regenerist Retinol 24 Night Serum, to see if it was worth the hype. The first time I saw the advert was last year, during our trip to DC. It was on my list since then. Firstly, because it mentions retinol and secondly it is a serum. I am a huge fan of retinol in my skincare, because it has totally transformed my skin. I have been using over the counter retinol for the past 8-9 years. But, today I want to talk about the new Olay regenerist retinol 24 night serum, as it is now available here in Philippines.

About Retinol

Retinoids are a huge family of compounds derived from Vitamin A. There are several forms of topical retinoids available. From over the counter to prescription strength, these derivatives of Vitamin A come in different forms and retinol is one of them.

Retinol is one such anti aging skincare ingredient that has been tried and tested for more than 25 years. It is was first used to reduce acne and blemishes. But over time it has proved that it not only treats acne but also reduces wrinkles and fine lines significantly. The tiny molecules penetrate deeper into the skin. It helps in stimulating cell turnover and boosting elastin and collagen production. Retinol helps treat severe acne, improves skin tone, reduces fine lines and wrinkles, reduces hyperpigmentation, reduces the appearance of large pores and improves the firmness of the skin. Additional benefits include fading age spots and softening the skin.

It is magical and the result is visibly beautiful, brighter, and more youthful skin. However, with all the potential benefits there are a some side effects to consider like it will make your skin more sensitive to the sun, people experience dry and irritated skin, that includes redness, itchiness and peeling skin. But these side effects are temporary and will likely improve within a few weeks as your skin gets used to it. The best way to deal with them is to use every other day and gradually build up your skin’s tolerance to retinol, apply after 30 minutes of washing your face and use moisturizer and SPF.

However, to achieve best results from skincare that contains retinol, you must use it every day. Doctors recommend using retinol at night. But it also takes three to six months of regular use before you will see apparent reduction in wrinkles. And for the best results it may take six to twelve months. So using retinol will need some dedication.

Due to the retinol content this range is designed to be used at night. The formulation is a proprietary blend of Vitamin B3, Retinol and amino peptide. Olay Retinol 24 range is formulated to treat wrinkles while also improving the texture, smoothness, firmness of the skin without the irritation we experience with retinol. Sounds amazing!

The packaging of Olay night serum is pretty. I like that it is an opaque bottle, because retinol can degrade overtime if exposed to light and air. I also love that it comes with a pump, which minimizes the exposure to the air and maintains the potency of retinol over time. The blue color of the bottle is pretty. The consistency and texture of the serum is super light weight. It absorbs almost instantly and it does not feel sticky or oily.

The main ingredients in the new Olay Regernerist Retinol 24 Night Serum are retinol, Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide), Amino peptide and Glycerin. The strength of retinol is not mentioned, but since it is higher on the list, means the dosage must be strong. Niacinamide is another star ingredient which helps skin to retain moisture. It also helps with surface skin cell turnover, as well as exfoliation to remove dull skin. While Amino peptides are like ‘building blocks’ of skin cells. These supports the production of collagen for a more firmer and younger looking skin. Glycerin helps in keeping the skin well hydrated and calm.

I have been using the new Olay regenerist retinol 24 serum for the past month and I am really impressed with the results. However, you will not notice much difference just in 24 hours, as the brand claims. After using this serum every night for a month, my skin is smoother and feels firmer. My pores has reduced significantly and overall my complexion is brighter. The best part of using this serum is that I did not feel any irritation or sensitiveness on my skin. As I mentioned earlier I am a regular user of over the counter retinol, which also makes my skin very dry. It did not happen with using Olay regenerist 24 for a month. It was comfortable and easy to use.

Overall, it is a great way to introduce retinol into your skincare routine. It is gentle, effective and inexpensive. I am happy to say drugstore skincare is getting better and better. However, I want to mention, if you have sensitive skin you must do a patch test before using the product. Even though it feels gentle on my skin, it may feel irritating on people with sensitive skin. As I mentioned earlier, it is always the best to introduce retinol into your skincare slowly and see how your skin reacts to it. I highly recommend trying it. It is available at your nearest drugstores.
