What is a facial massage?

As the word suggests facial massage is massaging our face using our fingers, or some facial massage tools that are available, like gua sha, jade roller etc. Face massage involves massaging important facial muscles like jawline, cheeks and forehead. A few minutes of massage everyday will help increase blood flow, release tension, reduce puffiness, helps to uplift the firmness of the skin. As a result our skin looks healthy, beautiful and less stressed. But you must always start your massage on a clean face.

The Benefits of facial massage

Increases blood circulation – When we do facial massage, there is an increase in blood and oxygen flow to the face. As a result, it detoxifies the skin and increases collagen production, giving you fresh and glowing skin.

Release toxins and relieves tension- With the busy and stressful lifestyle our facial muscles tend to hold tension. Besides there is great amount of toxin buildup. Just doing simple massage helps to drain the toxins and relaxes the facial muscles, which reduces puffiness around the eyes and cheeks.

Natural facelift – We hold a lot of tension on the face when we feel stressed. For example when concentrating on work, which is one of the reasons for forehead wrinkles, wrinkles around the eyes etc. Stimulating facial muscles a few minutes at the end of the day is a natural form of anti aging skincare. Doing so on a regular basis helps to tone the facial muscles making them firmer and more lifted. Using lifting movements especially around the jawline, cheeks, neck will help to make our skin tight and firm.

Skincare products absorb better – At night after thoroughly cleansing, applying your anti aging skincare serums, moisturizers and massaging face in upward, lifting motions is a great way to help the products absorb into the skin better. Besides it makes your daily skincare routine more relaxing.

Younger looking you – Along with your regular skincare routine, incorporating facial massage will definitely make you look much more younger than your current age. However, it all depends of various factors like your skin condition, skincare routine, and the dedication with which you take care of yourself.

Slimmer more defined face – Your face will look slimmer and contoured with more defined jawline, high cheekbones. Since massage helps to drain away the water retention and puffiness of the face, your face will look slimmer and awake. A little tip – If you sleep with raised pillows there is less puffiness in the morning.

With all the benefits of facial massage, I hope I have motivated you enough to start massaging your face on a regular basis. I have been doing it for a while and feel good about it. The earlier you begin the better. However, with certain skin conditions like acne and pimples, if you have got Botox, fillers etc, you must consult your dermatologist. Incase of acne, pimples, sunburn or sensitive skin, you must NOT massage your face and wait for your skin to heal.

How I massage my face?

Before going to bed, I cleanse my face thoroughly. Apply enough whatever moisturizer/serum/oil I have. I make sure my face is slippery enough not to stretch or pull my skin. When the product is absorbed I spritz a little water or hydrating mist. I begin by massaging my neck, making firm upward stokes. Around the cheeks and jawline I always go upward and outward motions. I also use my knuckles for extra pressure. Same with the forehead, I go upward and outward movements. I pay extra attention to be gentle around the eyes and making lifting outward movements on my brows. There are many videos online for you to follow along in the beginning. I love Gadgetlily anti-aging facial massage video a lot.

There are various simple and easy techniques of facial massage. You can start by light upward strokes, tapping and kneading motions. But apply enough pressure that you feel comfortable with. Always work against the gravity. I believe the best time to do facial massage is before going to bed. It is good for your skin and mental health. If you are worried about how to make time to fit facial massage in your already busy schedule, you can do it while you are washing your face. Just do it for 30 seconds while you are using your face cleanser. Or you can also incorporate some massage while you are rinsing off your face mask. You will thank yourself 10-20 years later. Facial massage is a must in anti aging skincare, to look 10 years younger than your actual age. Trust Me!

Until next time stay safe, bright and beautiful! Happy Massaging!
